What would Brassard be worth to you guys? Ufa at seasons end, very team friendly salary this year (Not that that matters), might be needed to help Barzal adjust & could be signed long term. Cmon, what is he worth? |

you should be concerned about Lehner and his inability to control his rebounds because he was lousy with them in Buffalo.
I imagine that Sabres team in front of him didn't help all that much but he sucked.
Also, you better finish games in regular time or OT because if it goes to a shootout you've already lost...he's terrible in the Shoot-Out. |

Lehner is infuriating. He has the size, but he over plays his positioning, his rebounds are bad, and he has an uncanny knack to let in back-breaking weaksauce goals at the worst possible moment. I enjoy his passion. Hopefully he beats the crap out of somebody. We never actually got to see him pummel someone |

I would feel MUCH safer with Greiss as the starter. Lehner is verrrry shaky
Feel bad for Barzal. The expectations on this poor kid are gonna be completely unrealistic. With Dobson and Wahlstrom in the minors, doesn't it make sense to tear it down? Accumulate futures and build around the kids?
Not really the Lamareillo way, but it would be logical

If they resigned Tavares, are they even a sure playoff team? Probably not. If they had resigned him, it would have been nice to see if they could have tried to piece some key players around him, but that ship has sailed. Now what to do? Rebuild through the draft, which it looks like they had a nice start to already. It stinks, but being poopy for a couple of years will equate to higher draft picks. One initial concern is Trotz going through that process right after winning it all - how will he handle that?
Losing JT for nothing was a very Islander thing to do. Hopefully the new ownership, GM, coaches, etc. can start the pendulum swinging in the other direction. Go Isles. |

Look who the Islanders signed: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jan-kovar - PapaSquat
"It is rare for Jan Kovar to play in a match without dominating the ice. He is equally as effective in defense and offense, and his superiority over his opponents is sometimes overwhelming. He is formidable on the face-off spots, he is a bruiser in the low slot, he boasts a powerful, accurate shot and he can produce the killer pass. Kovar centers for Sergei Mozyakin, who smashed many records over the course of the season, and it is fair to assume that the Czech’s presence greatly enabled the master marksman to achieve so much, so swiftly."

Lehner was signed so we can make a run at Hughes at #1. If isles can tank the season get the #1 pick w/ Barzal and Dobson and Wahlstrom from this years draft and resign Eberle and lee the rebuild will be very short. |

I think the conspiracy theory that thinks this team will tank under Lou Lamoriello is a bit of a lark. Lou is under pressure by Scott Malkin to win. He's also under pressure to make a trade if possible. So these are not intended to tank by any stretch of the imagination. |

Sounds like a cross between Crosby/Ovechkin and Gretzky all balled up into one
7 goals and 35 points in 54 games last season is utterly dominant
Easily explains why he had to settle for 2 million and took the deal that offered guaranteed playing time with the Isles

When you take a KHL forward to NHL, yes it will bring him down to earth, but his history also shows the ability to center within the top six. Something direly needed since Brock isn't a good center, and Beauvillier was blooming better as wing. |

They'll put him with Kuhnhackl and Komarov to form the the K line or second consonant line after CC CC MM consonant line.
Lou is using alphabet analytics to build his team. |

Kovar in KHL ( https://awinninghabit.com...ns-jan-kovar-chance-sign/)
* 2013-14 season: 23 goals, 45 assists, 68 points in 53 games (1.28 PPG)
* 2014-15 season: 24 goals, 44 assists, 68 points in 60 games (1.13 PPG)
* 2015-16 seasons: 20 goals, 32 assists, 52 points in 58 games (0.89 PPG)
* 2016-17 seasons: 23 goals, 40 assists, 63 points in 59 games (1.06 PPG)
* 2017-18 seasons: 7 goals, 28 assists, 35 points in 54 games (0.64 PPG)

So can possibly play 3rd or even line 2, providing insurance on Brock Nelson's poor last season or Beauvillier needing more time (if they want to move him to C)

Conspiracy theory? The team is not very good. Way too many weaknesses to fix within one year. Veteran signings are great for the younger guys - they need to have locker room examples. Taking a flier on a KHL dude - whatever. But conspiracy? Best thing is to have a season or two of lottery picks while hopefully developing the talent that is drafted. |

Kovar was grossly outscored by Matt Ellison, a guy that can not make the nhl. Kovar only had 7 goals in 54 games and is small. Something tells me he is an extremely long shot to do any damage. Chris Lee, a minor league dman on his team in KHL also outscored him last year. Good player but nothing special as far as the nhl goes.

So, playing top line minutes/PP with (insert whatever good player was his linemate in above quote) he scored 35 points, which according to the conversion calculation equates to about 26 points at the NHL level
And playing 2nd or 3rd line here he's going to get less relative quality of linemates and less or even no PP time
